Sounds like a great opportunity for vjs and quartz composer artists to get their work in front of a wider audience.

Finally signed up for a You Tube account. I'm going to try and put up clips of lots of my visuals over the next week or so.

Part of my recent VJ set at the Temporary Assignment event. Done using Quartz Composer. And I am still loving the fact that I can alter nodes on the fly - usually ‘cause I’m preparing right 'til the last minute (and often beyond!)

I think I am going to have to look at a faster machine though - some of my compositions can easily bring my 1.5Ghz Powerbook to it's knees!

Macworld: News: NuVJ video controller introduced

ArKaos and Numark have teamed up to create a new tool for visual performance artists and DJs called the NuVJ. A video mixer for DJs, NuVJ is a combination hardware/software interface that's Mac and PC-compatible. A price was not announced.

It‘s funny how the simplest idea can (in combination with some other stuff) make for some great visuals … it’s a VU meter, and it's made of shipping containers!

I have just added in Feedburner stuff to my blog; so if you are currently reading this via an RSS feed, get the new feed (linked to on the top right of the page) for added value! Cheers.

Last night was the Temporary Assignment night at the Soul Cellar 78 in Southampton (UK). Big shout to all the great contributions:- LoHz (Jelly Bass) - great first outing for a fab new sound; DJs Chix and Purpose B - nice mix of alt.club tunes and random other stuff; Shakinda - and his marvellous automatic VJ software; the Artful Badger - with a twin projector art installation; Audacity - decor and dancing girls in full effect; and me, SteamSHIFT with all new visual graphics. Cheers also to Jonny Simps for filling at the beginning.

And big thanks to anyone who came along, braving the pants south coast weather. We were relatively few, but it was a top night even so.

Photos and screenshots to come soon. SteamSHIFT out.

And I thought putting my music on my computer was a long process….

I have started the process of ripping my DVD collection onto my mac for viewing either on the move (it‘s much less battery draining to play a movie off the hard disk than a DVD), or for playing on the TV. Our DVD player can be a little temperamental at times and ideally I’d like to get rid of it (and the video player and digibox).

Down the line I'm thinking that one of the new core-duo mac minis combined with an eyetv receiver (or maybe this one), would be a perfect replacement for all that gear.

Anyway, back to the matter at hand. Ripping the DVDs - using Mac The Ripper and Handbrake. Its very easy and gives good results. Here are my settings:

And that‘s all there is to, apart from the waiting roughly 8 hours for it to do it’s thing (on a Powerbook 1.5Ghz).

Ultra useful time saver!

Select an item in the Finder, invoke Quicksilver, then choose an application or a location in the file system; then hit Alt (option), Command and G.

Now, if you chose an application in QS, it will be ready for you to open the file with the chosen application; if you chose a location, it will be ready for you to move the file to that location.

It sounds complicated, but once you‘ve done it a few times, you’ll find your self using it more and more!
